6 Modern Classics to See You Through Spring
The past year has been a year like no other. From a fashion perspective, time away from offices and events has given us space and time to reconsider how we are dressing and what we want and need from our wardrobes.
There has been an undoubtable shift away from trend-driven items and we have a new daily uniform of basics and wardrobe staples.
As we move out of lockdown and slowly back into normal life, Naayib's classic, pared-back dresses and separates are the perfect transitional pieces to update your existing wardrobe. Here are six of our current favourites and how to wear them:
1. White Box Pleat Asymmetric Shirt Dress
This crisp white midi dress is a great forever piece, wear it over a fine-knit roll neck with brown or burgundy knee-high boots and a trench coat for a pulled together daytime look, or add chunky stomper boots, a leather belt and a maxi-length cardigan for off-duty weekend style.
A floral maxi dress is a brilliant, hard-working item to have in your wardrobe for the spring/ summer season. Wear a bright orange or pink roll neck underneath and a long coat or cardigan for a low-key weekend look, or dress it up with chunky gold earrings and blazer or cropped jacket for evening.
3. Ruched Sleeve Relaxed Fit Blazer and Navy Wide Leg Trousers
A suit but make it casual; this relaxed-fit blazer and wide-leg lightweight trousers are your shortcut to nailing the new working wardrobe. Add chunky, sporty trainers and a crisp white cotton crew neck t-shirt for a chic minimal look, or flat loafers and a white shirt and trench coat for super smart work style.
4. Longline Extra Fine Merino Cardigan
The cardigan and it's transitional appeal have seen it take centre stage in our wardrobes throughout lockdown and deservedly too - it's the perfect piece to pull an outfit together. The olive tone looks great with a timeless palette of neutral tones and monochrome. Wear it over everything from jeans, a long-sleeved silk top and heels, to lightweight knit trousers a jumper and loafers.
5. A-line Skirt With Oversized Pockets
Although more structured fabrics or voluminous silhouettes may feel out of place in your current routine, this maxi-length comfy but statement skirt will pull a lot of your existing wardrobe together. It will elevate a cotton-t-shirt and trainers instantly, add a colourful knit and boots to be meeting ready and for evening wear it with platforms or kitten heels and a belt for a super slick look.
Tapered trousers are a wardrobe essential and a great trans-seasonal item. Not only can they be worn with a chunky knit and ankle boots for now but you can switch in lightweight separates come spring. The runways continually show us why tailored separates are the perfect investment pieces; a neat roll neck styled under the perfect powder blue shirt looks timeless with tapered trousers, a classic elegant belt and leather jacket or blazer.
